The Night Tree Holiday Hike

All families are welcome to join us on our Night Tree nature walk on Thursday, December 19 at 1:30. Our class will be taking a hike through Stratham Hill Park.  We will meet in the classroom and head out to the woods behind the school.  Hot cocoa and cookies will follow.

As part of our walk, we will be decorating the trees with treats for all the animals.  We will be looking for donations:
·      2 boxes of Cheerios cereal
2    4 bags of fresh cranberries
·       1 bag of oranges

Please email me if you are willing to bring in one of these materials.
Thank you in advance!

Now that the snow has arrived... your child needs snowpants, boots, coat, hat and mittens/gloves in order to go in the snow.  Otherwise, they need to stay on the pavement during recess.  Please also pack your child an extra pair of socks in their backpack and let them know to change into them if their socks become wet.  Ask your child to show you how to roll snowpants so they fit in his/her backpack.

Here are a few IXL math skills to work on.  You can click on the skill directly to be brought to the website.

    1. S.5Match analog and digital clocks

UNH Hockey Player

Kevin Goumas, a UNH hockey player, came to read to our class today.  The students went home with his autograph.  He is number 27 if you ever go to a game to watch him play.  We learned all about him, and he read a picture book about a hockey player!

Thanksgiving Feast!

We will shop at the Scholastic Book Fair on Monday at 1:50.  You may come with us if you would like to help your child purchase books.  Otherwise, you could send in money with your child in a labeled envelope with their name and amount or ask them to write down titles and prices of books that they are interested in purchasing later in the week.  We can help them write the titles and prices.  We will see Mrs. Hanson and Mrs. Gomes for centers on Monday.  They will also join us for the Book Fair.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving! Below are photos from our feast!  The food was delicious! Go to the Flickr site to the right of this blog to view photos of us preparing for our feast!  Thank you to Mrs. Gomes, Mrs. Moriarty, Mr. Calias, and Ms. Forrest for volunteering to help prepare for our feast.

Family Turkey Projects

I enjoyed meeting with all of you at parent conferences!

Some questions to ask your child about the week:

  • How do you find the missing addend of an equation?  3+ __ = 5 (How do you know how many counters are hiding under the cup?)
  • Tell me what horizontal, vertical, and diagonal mean?
  • How did you make a turkey using your hands and feet?
  • What was your classroom job this week?
  • Can you name a reading strategy in your backpack?
  • Which sound does short a, short i, and short o make?
  • Can you tell me a few facts you learned about turkeys?

Below are our Family Turkey Projects.  Sorry the lens on our iPad was smudged when we took the photos.  They aren't the clearest pictures.  The students enjoyed sharing them with the class.
