Fall Festival

Our Fall Festival was a success. We enjoyed hearing a pumpkin story, creating a mummy, face painting, making spider headbands, pumpkin bowling, scarecrow building, and Pumpkin Elf hunting!

Beginning our search for the Pumpkin Elf!

Here we are about to enjoy our festive snack.  Thank you to Mrs. Lawton for organizing our volunteers and delicious food.  Thank you to all our volunteers who helped make this Fall Festival successful and thank you to everyone who purchased the popcorn, cider, and paper goods  The giant, delicious fruit salad was amazing.  Mrs. Lawton made a pumpkin gift bag for each student. :)

Mrs. Harris was our Mystery Reader this week!

Fire Prevention Day!

We learned to replace your smoke detector's batteries at least twice a year.  Write the date on the battery.  Have a meeting place.  Review your address and phone number.  Practice the important emergency number...911!

Stop, Drop, and Roll!  Practice what to do in case your clothes catch on fire.

Sparky says, "If you hear the smoke detector, crawl out of the house!"

Listened to a cute story called, A Dragon for Tea.

    Exploring the fire truck!

Corn Maze and Spooktacular Science

Our Fall Festival activities will be occurring on Friday, October 31st. These activities take the place of a Halloween party. We do not dress up in costumes in first grade. That is a special activity reserved for our kindergartners.
I am looking forward to meeting with everyone during the next two weeks to discuss your child's progress. October 29th and November 7th are both Early Release days due to Parent Conferences and there is no school on Monday, November 10th and Tuesday, November 11th in honor of Veteran's Day.

We have been...
  1. Learning about word strategies that readers use when he or she comes to a tricky word.
  2. Adding more details to our "small moment" stories and adding punctuation.
  3. Reading the Pumpkin Elf Mystery.  We hope to get a visit from the Pumpkin Elf this Friday.
  4. Adding three addends together, practicing addition and subtraction number stories, and labeling a unit.
We had a wonderful trip to the corn maze.  Despite the chilly start, we all enjoyed finding out lots of fun facts about the farm, picking out a pumpkin, taking a hayride and getting lost in the maze!

Ask your child to tell you about this Spooktacular science experiment!  We also recorded our results in our science journals.
