Corn Maze and Spooktacular Science

Our Fall Festival activities will be occurring on Friday, October 31st. These activities take the place of a Halloween party. We do not dress up in costumes in first grade. That is a special activity reserved for our kindergartners.
I am looking forward to meeting with everyone during the next two weeks to discuss your child's progress. October 29th and November 7th are both Early Release days due to Parent Conferences and there is no school on Monday, November 10th and Tuesday, November 11th in honor of Veteran's Day.

We have been...
  1. Learning about word strategies that readers use when he or she comes to a tricky word.
  2. Adding more details to our "small moment" stories and adding punctuation.
  3. Reading the Pumpkin Elf Mystery.  We hope to get a visit from the Pumpkin Elf this Friday.
  4. Adding three addends together, practicing addition and subtraction number stories, and labeling a unit.
We had a wonderful trip to the corn maze.  Despite the chilly start, we all enjoyed finding out lots of fun facts about the farm, picking out a pumpkin, taking a hayride and getting lost in the maze!

Ask your child to tell you about this Spooktacular science experiment!  We also recorded our results in our science journals.
