Week of April 28th

There are only 7 1/2 weeks of school left.  It is hard to believe.  Please have your child choose books from home or the Wiggin Memorial Library to read at home from now on.  Please also remember how important it is for you to continue to read to your child.  The language they hear through stories is very different than our daily language.  The enriching vocabulary, sentence structures, characters, and story lines will help your child grow in a variety of ways.

During math, we have been working on 3-Dimensional shapes.  Please visit IXL to practice these skills.  The website was reviewed in the computer lab and can be accessed from the school website under the technology page.  If you access the site in your browser, please keep in mind that you may need to add the word @stratham after your child's username.

Thank you for the classroom donations!  If you haven't donated anything yet, we are still in       need of more unscented, foaming hand soap.

We have two center dates left.  They are May 5th with Mrs. Gomes and Mr. Vivenzio (please wear walking shoes, depending upon weather) and May 13th wtih Mrs. Citerella and Mrs. Houghton.

If you didn't get a chance to be Mystery Reader this year, and would like to volunteer for this, please let me know.  Day 2 at 2:30 works best for us.  Check the back of your child's folder for the "green days".  If that doesn't work for you, we could always arrange another day and time.

Below are our cast photos!  A big thank you to Mrs. Hewins,  Mrs. Bessemer and Mrs. Byors for giving their time to help us throughout the practices and performances!  Thank to everyone for the beautiful flowers!  The students are very proud of themselves.

We hope you all have a wonderful vacation!

Happy Earth Day!  This is the bag of trash we collected on our school property in 30 minutes!
Ask your child to retell this story to you.

Performance

Your little lobster did an amazing job performing in front of the school today.  It was their best performance yet!  You would have been so proud of him/her.  I will post pictures of them in their costumes towards the end of the week.

Please remember to drop your child off to the classroom at 6:15 tomorrow evening, April 16th.  The performance will begin at 6:30.  The front doors to the school will be locked.  You will need to enter by the music room and head to the classroom from there.  We are looking forward to seeing all of you!

Our classroom is in need of unscented, foaming hand soap, gallon size bags, glue sticks, white board markers, tissues, 5oz. Dixie cups, and baby wipes.  If you can, please choose one or two items to donate.  Ask your child to tell you why we used baby wipes today.

I am looking forward to meeting with many more of you for our Parent Conference tomorrow afternoon.  Please remember that it is an Early Release.  The students will be dismissed at 12:50.

Below is some information you need to know about our musical:
  • It is extremely important that every student arrives to school on time this Monday and Tuesday.  We will do dress rehearsals for our Reading Buddies Monday morning and most of the school Tuesday morning.
  • Please drop your child off in our classroom at 6:15 on Wednesday evening, April 16th.  We plan to begin the show at 6:30.  There is plenty of room for extended family.
  • On Monday and Tuesday morning and Wednesday evening your child needs to come to school wearing specific clothing.   If your child is wearing any sort of dress for the performance (princess or other), please make sure they wear shorts, tights, or leggings that day.  Children wearing costumes need to wear light underclothes to school that day.
  • Please practice the lines and songs with your child this weekend.
WE CAN'T WAIT!!!!!

Some questions to ask your child about our week:
  • What is alphabetical order?
  • Which character do you like best in the musical?  Why?
  • What is your classroom job this week?
  • How is our classroom looking like spring?
  • What is the new chapter book we are reading?
  • Who do you sit with at your table?
  • Name a few fairy tales.
  • What is the name of a book you are reading in your Book Barn?
We will be focusing on addition and subtraction facts to ten until the end of the school year.  Please help your child practice these skills by using flash cards, downloading a few apps, or using IXL math.
Here are some skills in IXL that focus on the facts.

Musical

The musical is coming together and the students are very talented!  They need the most help practicing the words to the songs.  They have been assigned additional versus to sing for the Mama Bear, Papa Bear, and Baby Bear song.  Ask your child to explain this to you.  Most of the costumes will be provided for your child next week.  There are a few costumes we will need items for, and I will let you know which ones next week.

Due to the play practices and the trip to the Music Hall this week, we did not have as much time for Word Study.  Therefore, our spelling test will be on Monday.

I hope you have a great weekend!  I will see some of you next week for the start of our Parent Conferences!

Music Hall

Please have your child eat a hearty breakfast tomorrow morning as we will not eat snack at school.  We will spend the morning at the Porstmouth Music Hall to see Henry and Mudge and arrive back to school in time for lunch.
