Updates

We had so much fun creating marble mazes today with empty paper towel tubes, marbles, and dominoes.  Next Friday, we will explore these maze creations again and take videos of the mazes in action.

Next Friday, will be Pajama and Stuffed Animal Day!  We will also read with flashlights.

Today, we discovered that the Pinkalicious children's book series is now a cartoon on PBS.  We watched Glitterizer today and read the closed captioning as the words appeared.

Thank you for all the Valentine store and ice cream sundae donations. Valentine's Day was a blast!

We began our writing unit called "Writing Reviews".  The students have a letter in their blue folders explaining this unit.  We kicked the unit off by sharing my daughter Alanna's Beanie Boo dog collection with the class.  They each had to write her a letter telling which one they liked best and the reasons why.  Here is Alanna enjoying all their letters.  We also viewed Mr. Fosher's baseball hat collection and wrote letters to him stating our favorite.  Your child is ready to bring in a collection of their own!

Read Across America is next week.  Here is the flyer explaining all the events!  The flyer will also go home in the blue folders next week.

Olympic Opening Ceremony, Author Visit Sandra Dodge, and Detective Badges

On Friday, we kicked off the Olympics with a whole school assembly. Eric Flaim of Stratham showed off his speed skating medals and even brought along an Olympic torch! Our students will be hosting the Potato Olympics this week.  Each student chose a potato to be a competitor in our classroom Olympics.  The students also watched a video that featured all the winter Olympic sports.

Sandra Dodge and her husband Clint came to our school on January 26th to share her book, Grandma Pearl Goes Kaflooey! This story takes place in Barrington, NH.  Sandra is our classmate Kayla's great aunt.  She showed the students how she writes and illustrates her books. Sandra and her husband were very entertaining and passed around many artifacts from the story.  She also shared one of her other books, The Great Penguinis Do Blue.

The students were excited to earn their detective badges last week from the Secret Detective Agency for being great word detectives while reading!  They worked hard to earn them.  Here are the students showcasing their badges while reading.

Happy 100 Day and Updates

Please send in $1.00 in change (only pennies, nickels, and dimes) by Monday, February 12 in order to shop from our Valentine store.  We are still looking for a few parent volunteers to work at our classroom store from 10:00-11:40 on Monday, February 12th.  So far, Beckie Curtis has volunteered.  Please send me an email, if you are available.  Also, we could use a few more donations for our Valentine store and/or foaming hand soap.  We now have enough disinfecting wipes.  Thank you to everyone who has donated so far!

Please have your child bring their Valentines by Valentine's Day.  We are excited to pass out our Valentines and enjoy our sundaes on February 14th.

We have been so busy with all the various activities these past few weeks.

Ask your child to tell you:
Why do football players wear helmets?
How do you add dimes and pennies?
What are tens and ones?
Which symbols mean greater than, less than, and equal to?
What do four quarters equal?
How did it feel to go to the Moon?
Why did you get your reading detective badge?
What is a snap word?
When it is your turn to be the Lobster of the Week-- who will you invite to have lunch with you and Mrs. Hackett?

Upcoming Lobster of Week:

Week of February 12th:  Callie
Week of February 19th:  Cooper
Week of March 5th:  Margaret
Happy 100th Day!
We had fun reading our clues to the class!  Many were tricky and stumped us!  It sure was fun.

Blast Off to the Moon and First Grade Market

We had a great day planning and preparing for our trip to the Moon!  The students were so excited to go on this virtual field trip.  Thank you for letting them go to the Moon!  :)   We hope you enjoyed the video of our trip posted on Seesaw.

Thank you so much! The 1st grade raised $1,593 for The Georgie Badiel Foundation! With that money they will be able to restore one well and maintain it for 2 years. Thank you for donating and attending our market!

We had fun counting all those dollar bills!
Below are our market creations!
