Week of March 25-29th

FYI...If you need to respond to my emails, please do so by using the jhackett@sau16.org email just like you have been doing all year, instead of responding to this blog.  Thank you. I do enjoy hearing from you!

Tomorrow is Pajama Day and our Book Swap!

I am still waiting to hear from a few of you about parent conferences.  On April 10th, 1:30-3:45 is available and April 17th, 1:30-3:00 available.

This week we have learned about:

  • Text Sets (learning information about the same topic through all types of genres)
  • Equations with unknown whole numbers in addition and subtraction such as... 8+__=11    5= __-3
  • Our Musical...Please return the scripts every Monday.
  • Writing Informational Books
  • Y as a vowel
  • Author/Illustrator Marty Kelley
  • Using Fact Triangles to write equations
Some activities we have completed this week:

  • Cut paper to create a decorative egg
  • Played addition and subtraction BINGO on the iPads
  • Learned the first song in our musical
  • Began our first informational book (Ask your child which topic they chose to write about.)

Here is the author, Marty Kelley with some of the books he has published!  Some of our favorites were Summer Stinks,  the rules, Fall Is Not Easy, Winter Woes, and The Messiest Desk!

Marty Kelley's rough draft to a book he is currently working on!

He was very funny.  He is a former teacher, father, and author!  The students learned how hard he has to work just to publish one book!

Reminders:  Parent Conferences and Early Release: April 10th and 17th, Dismissal at 12:50

Homework:  Remember your lines for our musical and have your parents respond to your Circle Notebook.  Due Monday!
